Location and Travel
- Remote Island with just 144 visitors on Island at any one time, you’re more likely to see a turtle in the lagoon than another pair of fins.
- Of the 27 islands, just two are inhabited - West Island and Home Island. Population 600, including around 450 Cocos Malay.
- A half-day flight away from Perth, the Cocos Keeling Islands are located 900 km from Christmas Island.
- Virgin Australia fly from Perth International Airport Tuesdays and Fridays. Flights can be booked here: https://www.virginaustralia.com/au
Marine Park
- With visibility at 25-30 metres on average, the crystal-clear lagoons offer a chance to get up close with blooming coral underwater gardens.
- Over 500 species of vibrant fish, majestic manta rays, fat hawksbill and green turtles, and bottlenose dolphins. As fish from both the Indian and Pacific Ocean meet here, new species like the Cocos Pygmy Angelfish and an extremely rare dwarf fish have developed too – making our far-flung marine environment so unique
Weather
- The Cocos Keeling Islands have a tropical savanna climate year-round. Evenings rarely drop below 24°C and the water temperature hovers around 26°C.
- The islands experience two main seasons - Trade wind season (July to November) and doldrum season (December to June)
- Most days on Cocos during the trade wind season are sunny and warm, with the occasional tropical shower, so we recommend bringing a rain coat for comfort.
